The largest widespread faith
The Faith of Origins is the biggest religion on Itor with a wide and diverse pantheon and a rich story, some long lost to time, others carved in stone so no matter how long it takes, they will be found again.
Part 1: A dance of life and death
At the start of the universe there were two gods, the god of life and the god of death. They danced around each other so fast that it often was hard to know who was who or even if there were two. Life went and turned to death and from that death new life sprung out. Through eons the two of them danced with each other, grazing every part of the universe with their marvelous dance. Soon enough they came to a small planet, one that was perfect. It was the most adorable little planet they thought and instead of simply grazing the planet with the idea of life and death, making sure nothing would last forever, but that something always would come back again, they gifted the planet with life, things that would live much shorter lifespans than the planet itself.
The world quickly flourished with all sorts of life, from the still standing mighty trees, the fast moving elusive insects and the cunning animals. Life diversified to every part of the land on the little planet, the grand mountains only sprouted sparse grass, lending to the compact goats and large predatory birds looking for mice. From this hard diet the Goliaths emerged, gaining rough skin and a larger stature to combat the harsh winds and rough climate. Their one competitor came in the form of Orcs, rough, relentless and never tiring as they pursued their prey through the tall mountains.
The caves inside the mountain quickly filled up with large monstrosities so only the hardiest could survive, in here the Dwarfs emerged, their long and heavy beards serving as masks to keep out all the debris that they dug up in search of metals and gems. The Deep Gnomes came out of the ever dark shadows, using their innate magic to hide from the predators in the deep.
In the swamps below the mountains the wet lands lended itself to a large amount of insects and so reptiles. These grew to be as large as humanoids and developed into the Lizardmen, their more primitive stiles developed to deal with the ever hungry swamp. While the lizardmen trodded through the murky water Bugbears swung and climbed through the trees, using their long arms to ambush prey.
To the south and east the long planes and heavy forests birthed many animals, from the humble sparrow to the prideful boar, the lazy bear to the ever watchful wolf. In this paradise of nature the Elfs, Centaurs, Harengon and Halflings emerged, unified in their respect and admiration for the nature they came from, working to uphold the balance of their homes.
To the north, in the sparren desert the Tabaxi and Leonin clawed their way up, preying on the sparse life that was in the sandridden and barren land. Each day a new fight for their continued survival. The Yuan-Ti thrived in the harsh environment, their coldblooded nature lending itself to the beaming sun, letting them be more active than in the cold.
To the west with the combination of the mountains, plains and forests the wise old Tortles evolved together with the ambitious Humans.
Life flourished everywhere the gods looked, but that was it, nothing more ever happened, all stayed in their home, never wandering far from the group and so they barely interacted with each other. This was not the life the gods had wanted to create, but they knew nothing else for they were only the gods of life and death and nothing more.
Part 2: The great mixing
The two gods thought long and hard about what they could do, for they could not change the course of life, simply give and take it. In the end they decided to get help from someone who could change the way their creations lived and so they went to work, taking some of the life they had granted to the small planet and from it created something that could do what they could not and this is how the goddess of nature and exploration was created.
With her help to guide life some of the races sought out to explore the world in which they inhabited. Some of the Orcs sought down the mountain, finding themselves in the swamps and making primitive villages on stilts to live in. Almost all the Tabaxi left the desert to seek better and easier prey in the lush plains, filling the northwestern plains, meeting the Centaurs who came up from the south for better grassing opportunities. But out of all the species the one who heard the call to explore the most was the humans, quickly spreading throughout the whole continent and interacting with the species. The two gods were happy, the life they had created had spread, they had found each other and interacted and so they left for a while, letting their life grow on its own with the goddess of nature to guide them.
Part 3: Era of new gods
As the two gods left the world was left to the goddess of nature and adventure and so she led the many species as best she could by making the only things she knew the focus of the life, adventure and nature. In some it was nature that filled their core and so they pursued this over adventure, these were the centaurs and haregons, the tortles and leonin, others felt a more adventurous purpose as left their homes to explore the world, these were the tabaxi, the dwarfs and of course the humans, the most adventurous of them all.
As the world flourished and the species sought each other out and mixed cities were built, rulers were elected to rule them and more came to for work and so the world got inhabited, dwarfs and humans living side by side with tabaxi and halflings. There was a need for new gods for all the things that were explored, the god of trade and relationships appeared out of a busy market, the god of magic exploded out of a powerful mages tower, deep in the mines the god of the earth and mining rose up, but with all this growth conflict was sure to appear and cities clashed to grow into each other's area and in the fight the brave warrior god showed herself.
